Nam Peun 2 (Nam Pern 2) Dam Hydropower Info by Hobo Maps - Go to Hydropower Projects Page - - Home

Nam Peun 2 hydropower site is located on the Nam Peun (river) in Houameuang District of Houaphan Province north of Ban Sop Peun village (where the Nam Peun joins the Nam Neun river).

The Nam Peun (river) is a tributary of the Nam Neun (river) in northern Lao PDR. Click to see our - Satellite view map of Nam Peun river.

Nam Peun 2 hydropower project along with Nam Peun river is shown on satellite image below:

The image below shows the open channel that carries water from the reservoir down to a place where it appears the flow goes into an underground conduit.

Nam Peun 2 dam & reservoir seen in image below is at coordinates - 20°03'52.6"N 103°58'37.9"E (20.064611, 103.977194)

Nam Peun 2 powerhouse images below at coordinates - 20°02'15.5"N 103°58'58.3"E (20.037639, 103.982861)

Nam Peun 2 HPP is located near Pa Kung village, Houameuang District, Houaphan Province, Lao PDR.

We're not sure who the owner & developer are for Nam Peun 2 project but Nam Peun 1 hydropower project was developed by Nam Peun 1 Power Company Ltd. and by Phongsubthavy Group and they may also be connected with Nam Peun 2.

The Nam Peun 2 has 12 MW generating capacity with reported annual output of up to 68 GWh (which seems a bit too high). Not sure who is offtaking the output.

The power plant was finished and commissioned in 2017.

The Nam Peun river ends as it joins the Nam Neun river about 26 km southeast of Ban Sop Lao as shown below:

Topographic map below shows Nam Peun river in upper right plus unrelated Nam Neun 1 & 3 hydropower projects.

A Vientiane Times news report in June 2024 indicates the Nam Neun 1 hydropower project plans to start exporting its power output to Vietnam in 2028. Since the Nam Peun 1 & 2 hydropower projects are very close to the Nam Neun 1 HPP and also close to the transmission lines for the Nam Yeuang Cascade group (that export power to Nong Cong Vietnam) we are guessing the Nam Peun output may soon connect to the Nam Neun and Nam Yeuang project transmission line as shown in the map below with output exported to Vietnam.
