Thailand Visa Information for Thai Consulate in Vientiane - by Hobo Maps - - - - Home
Thai visas are obtained from the Thai Consular office in Vientiane at grid code IB211 on THIS MAP and not from the Thailand Embassy which is at a different location.
The Thailand Consulate in Vientiane requires visa applicants to make appointment reservations in advance via the internet - https://thaivisavientiane.com/. Using Mozilla Firefox browser worked good but had trouble using Google Chrome browser as I never received email with password when I signed up for a new account.
After receiving confirmation of appointment we need to show a copy to get into the Consulate compound either as printed on paper or on smart phone display. Make sure every detail is accurate as they are strict. Download Visa Application Form and print on A4 paper – preferrably in color.
I filled in all places on the form except for “Name and Contact of Guarantor in Thailand” and “Name and Contact of Guarantor in Laos”. Apparently these are not required for a Tourist Visa since they didn’t ask me to complete these when I submitted the form.
Also need a photocopy of your passport page that has your Laos entry visa or permit and another copy of the main passport page with your picture and passport number.
Agents outside will make photocopies of passport pages and take passport photos at fair prices. They also try to sell application forms but these are free for download and also apparently free from staff inside the Consulate.
REQUIRED DOCUMENTS: (in April 2023)
1. A completed and signed Visa Application Form
2. 2 passport-sized photos taken within last 6 months - 3.5 x 4.5 cm
3. An original and a copy of passport or travel document which is valid for no less than 6 months, including bio data page, immigration stamp to Lao PDR page and Lao visa page (for applicant with no residence in Lao PDR)
4. Evidence of adequate finance • Single-Entry Tourist Visa: 3-month financial statements with an average balance of 20,000 baht per person or 40,000 baht per family • Multiple-Entry Tourist Visa: 6-month financial statements 200,000 baht per person
5. Travel itinerary to and from Thailand and accommodation e.g. plane/train/bus ticket, hotel booking, letter from whom you will be staying with and a signed copy of his/her ID
The fee still seems to be 1,000 baht for a single-entry tourist visa.
In the past we could pick up our passport and visa the next working day but it now takes 3 working days to process the visa application.
The financial and accommodation requirements in 4 & 5 above are much higher than we've seen in the past and may be a deal-killer for many applicants. Be prepared for multiple visits.
Be sure to dress decently and good luck. These Thai run a tight ship and go by the rules!
